| Mark Farrow manager & coach |
Won the SMJFL 1st Div title as assistant manager with stockport junior blues 2005/6 then resigned at beggining of 2006/7 season due to internal problems at the club then in late 2007 formed New york rovers fc u/15s in rediness for the 2007/8 season and with the idea of teaching the simple knowledge of football to young players irrelevant of ability good or not so good ! the idea being you can compete against the best sides if you know how too and i think we proved that playing as a team Best Memory ! Well of course there were quite a few and not least winning the SMJFL 4th division title on the field of play in our first ever season as a team and of course the 3rd round of the cheshire cup against wilmslow sports u17s when we were still u/16s where we lost on penalties in what was a cracking game of football at bakery playing by both teams in front of quite a few spectators ! But the best memory which i think is shared and remembered by most players and parents was in the game against cheadle & gatley B away ! we needed to beat this team to knock them out of the title race and further ours ! we were getting a good roasting in the 1st half and went in ht 1-0 down with them also missing a pen ! in second half we manged to get back at em even with a depleated squad and it was 1-1 with a minute to go after luke farrow had equalised midway thru second half ! step in matt knowles who got the ball on the left entered the area and after nearly being brought down recovered to smash a rocket into bottom right hand corner 2-1 to new york and the winner ! all the team jumped all over matt yep the best memory by far without a doubt... |
| Matthew Knowles Midfielder/Striker |
A player who came from Cheadle & Gatley C and what a great asset he was ! Strong and a clinicle finisher in and around the box and this guy never stopped or gave up ! played the game how it should be ! clean honest and never booked ! matt ended up making 27 appearances and went on to become new yorks greatest goal scorer with 21 goals & some great one's at that ! His committment could never questioned. Best Memory Against cheadle & gatley B away on the 24th feb 2008 won 2-1 ! When matt scored the winning goal in the dying minutes in a game we needed to win to stay on course for the title. Yep the loudest roar ive ever heard on a footy field and matt was piled on by all the new york players ! a moment to savour |
| Daniel Bates Left Wing/Striker |
Danny bates signed for new york for the up and coming 2008/2009 season in div3 at u/16s after being out of the game for 2yrs " and what a great signing he turned out to be ! 4 goals in his 1st three games.......a very strong player with lightening speed and a touch of skill thrown in ! unfortunately new york were only privalaged to have seen the new strike partnership of danny and matt in the first few games ! and what we seen was a awesome strikeforce to savour ! but the team then became beset with player problems which impeaded his potential.....danny did make 12 appearances and scored 6 goals ! A player that gave his all and could rely on ! Best Memory ! His almost single handed destruction of wilmslow sports on the 21st sep 2008 ! scoring two great goals and having a hand in the other three after going two goals behind early on in the game, which we eventually won 5-2 ! |
| James Lewis Right wing/Striker |
James lewis ! yep another player who after being released by bramhall hadnt played for 2 seasons ! what can i say about this guy coz he wore his heart on his sleeve and there was no goal celebration like his ! this guy was new york thru and thru ! played in every game for new york " and on occasions a ticking time bomb with his passion ! this guy drew blood literally on countless occasions for new york. he was as strong as they come and once he got in front of you there was no chance you were catching him ! He scored some sublime goals and missed some howlers and was one of the most improved players and geeting better until we folded ! Best Memory against reddish north end on the 16th nov 2008 ! when he made a great run down left wing when id switched the wingers to try and up the anti, and he delivered bigtime with a astonishing finish that belonged on MOD lol. going down the left cutting inside switching the ball on to his right foot and bending a shot beyond the keepers left from 20yrds ! a goal out of the robhino club and one that set us up to go on and win the game 4-0 at home ! |
| Jake Crawley Rightback/DM |
Jake crawley played for bramhall north for a couple of seasons with a few of new york players ! he left and never played footy for 4yrs " and what a loss to junior football this guy was coz he was a cracking rightback for us ! not many players got past jake and he was commited bigstyle ! un fortunately jake had to give up playing for new york not long into the div3 campaign and he was a big loss ! Best memory ! jake never did score for new york but this guys commitment and passion was rubberstamped in the game against norbury athletic on 20th april 2008 at home ! he was injured to his back in a friendly against new mills a week before ! we only had ten players for the game in question , but jake offered to give it a go even in bad pain ! three times he went down in the game suffering badly until i took him off at half time ! but him knowing it would put us down to ten men he didnt want to come off ! but that was jake for you new york thru and thru ! |
| Mark Fletcher RM/Striker |
Mark came to new york from bramhall north with his bro ! him wanting a new challenge. Now given this guy had asthma ! astonishingly he played in every game for new york bar 1 ! yeah not the fastest player on show but he was quite intelligent footywise and he was one of the best players passing wise we had and some of his passing was top drawer ! Best Memory ! against high lane juniors in 7-1 win at home on the 28th oct 2007,mark and matt knowles linked up well in this game ! mark supplying matt with a great thru ball for him to go on and score ! then matt returning the favour putting mark thru where he held off a challenge and scored with one off the coolest finishes you could hope to see ! yep maybe the coolest player under pressure and never panicked ! |
| Curtis Pemberton CB/LB |
Here's a player that had never played on a soccer team ! apart from a couple of appearances as a sub for bramhall north ! and what a great defender he turned out to be ! this guy was like a cobra , one sniff of the ball and it was his ! dont think in all the games he played for new york was he ever beaten for pace and seldom lost the ball ! also a deft touch second to none and was never phased ! all in all up there with the best and 1st on the teamsheet Best Memory was away at disley juniors 6th jan 2008 where curt having never scored for new york in a game was given the opportunity by way of penalty as we were leading 2-0 at the time ! think he took a quick one when the ball was about 3ft off the spot and was made to take it again ! this time he took a run up from near the semi circle it seemed and smashed a curling shot to the keepers right ! again all the lads congradulated him coz they all wanted him to score. |
| Luke Farrow Right Wing/Mid |
Maybe the best passing player & corner kick taker we had who again was i of only five players who played in every league game we ever played ! the execution of some of his passing which resulted in many a goal for his team mates was top drawer on his day , and add to that some great goals along with some great wing play plus being able to play in a number of positions " a great asset to new york. He was another player who joined new york after being out of football for 2 seasons !having previousley played for bramhall north for 4 seasons and won promotion with in first season at 11 aside 1 hen he went onto win the 1st div title with stockport junior blues 2005/2006. Best Memory ! against reddish north end at home in div3 on the 16th nov 2008 ! we had just gone 1-0 up with a great goal by james lewis in a game we needed to get back on track after 3 defeats.we had a corner on the left and matt knowles decided to take this one instead of the usual corner taker luke ! and boy did it pay off ! matt delivered a thunderbolt of a corner which was slowly rising as it headed to the far right of the 18yrd box and luke met it perfect ! yep a bullet of a header into the top left of the net from about 15 yrds out 1 it was travelling that fast the goalkeeper had no chance....one of the great new york goals to put us 2-0 up and go on and win the game 4-0 . |
| Callum Niell D/Midfielder |
If ever you could clone a player ten times and form a team with him callum niell would be the player ! this guy had a bit of everything and could play anywhere on the pitch with a engine and strengh second to none along with the knack of scoring some outrages goals from distance.....a player who who i recall never had a bad game and played in every single game aswell ! never shirked a challenge and would relish the challenge in the physical games we encountered hence the only red card new york recieved which was unfair ! Best Memory ! This came in our first ever league match against norbury athletic away " on the 16th sep 2007 ! down 2-0 having only ten players on the pitch due to callum thinkin it was a later kickoff ! when he eventually turned up 20mins into the game he went on and we went 3-0 down ha ha ! but what was to come in the second half was fantastic coz callum was at the heart of the comeback ! having clawed it back to 3-2 with callums input ! he chose to score a spectacular equaliser from 30yrds out by way of dinking a player knocking the ball up into a comfortable position off his knee teeing it up perfect and lacing a screamer over the keeper into the roof of the net ! yep a fantastic strike and one that seeled the comeback at 3-3 eventually going on to win the game 5-4 ! |
| Nathan Ditchburn CB/RB |
Althiugh nathan was a original member and signed for new york from the start ! he was still signed for cheadle & gatley C from the timperley & district league which meant he didnt feature in 3 games in the first half of the season making his debut in the second game against bramhall county and what a addition to new york this guy was ! nathan was solid in stature and strengh and not many could hit a ball as far as he could with him taking all the free kicks inside our own half and dropping them in the box more often than not ! he was actually quite pacey for a big built lad aswell ! nathan was unlucky to have recieved a injury against signol athltic in a friendly preceeding our last league fixture in div 4 our 1st season ! which was a big loss and we paid for that losing our last game with only ten fit players being able to play ! Best Memory ! against chaple town juniors on the 6th april 2008 at home 1 quite a few goals in this game and nathan had not scored for new york in a league game ! so in the second half he went up front and managed to smash one in from about 25yrds and nearly bust the nets with it !alas nathans only league goal for new york ! but another player not phased by anything or anyone. |
| Anthony Fletcher Leftback/Mid |
Anthony signed for new york with his bro after spending several years at bramhall north and played there with several of the new york players overtime ! one of the tallest and strongest players physically we had at new york and one that stood his ground and was not intimidated by any challenge he faced ! he played in every game aswell ! One thing he was famous for was the lollipop which when it came off it meant he was having a good game and something special was on the horizon hence Best Memory ! On the 1st feb 2009 away at bollington united who were unbeaten at home ! New york had managed to get themselves in a 2-1 lead late into the second half but bollington were still dangerous and we needed something to happen by way of another goal ! enter the lollipop kid who recieved the ball just into our own half where he shrugged off one challenge lollipoped a bollington player and then smashed a 35yrd rocket into the top right of the net " hitting the upright and bar on the way in ! ant said he spotted the keeper off his line haha, but none the less a great goal to seal a great win. |
| Joshua Lewis LB/LW |
Again another player who had spent a couple of yrs not playing since he and his bro james were released by bramhall north ! Josh ' another player who played in every game had one of the best engines outta all the new york players and just kept going and going ! operated mainly on the left side at fullback or mid/wing 1 in our ist season josh and his bro weighed in with quite a few goals and went onto to become one of the top scorers for new york scoring 4 in one game against chaple town juniors ! he scored some great goals and missed some howlers no matter what pos he was playing and a very strong player who never gave up ! Best Memory ! In our 1st ever league match away at norbury athletic on the 16th sep 2007 . It was a game that was taking place under difficult circumstances and the wind blowing about 50mls and hr . we started this game with ten men and went 2-0 down! 3-0 down at H-T . In the second half we had managed to claw our way back to 4-4 with 3 mins remaining ! josh got injured playin at the back so i put him up front coz we had no subs and what a tactical move this was coz josh " injured to boot recieved the ball out on the right and somehow hobbled his way down the right beating two norbury players into the bargain and ventured into the box and smashed the winner for new york ! well the players swamped him and he had set the standard for the great season we were to go on and have ! |
| Willian Cartwright Goalkeeper |
William again had a spell with bramhall north as a outfield player for one season then drifted out of football for several seasons until he joind new york ! initially as a outfield player up front on the right coz he was the fastest player on the team hence i nicknamed him the bullet! We didnt have a keeper so william didnt mind going in net coz he had played for his school at some point in net . Talk about unearthing a diamond this guy was the best goalkeeper in the metro full stop ! top div or bottom div i aint seen a goalie with better reflex actions handling or speed. william was pivotal to new yorks success and more often than not the opposing team and managers commented on the sometimes sublime saves he made ! Best Memory ! where do i begin to find one coz there was so many but i think the game that sums up williams performances was away to our rivals Sandringham Rovers ! who were a team that just put relentless presure on sides to a point they teamss just gave up ! 30th sep 2007 away to sandringham and both teams with 100% records intact something had to give ! in the first 20mins sandringham layed siege to to new york back four and on three occasions in that 1st 20mins spell william made saves that looked impossible were talking point blank reaction saves ! we did survive that 1st 20mins somehow and it was all down to william without a doubt ! of course williams antics in net allowed new york to get up and running and eventually run out 3-2 winners in a cracking match against the strongest side you would ever want to meet ! |
| Jake Macormick R/W R/M |
Again another player who had not played for a team other than a couple of appearaces for bramhall north 3 or 4 seasons ago ! jake joined new york with friends he new........and theres no doubt about it this guy in traing was unbelievable his ball control and tricks he could do with the ball were second to none ! but one of his most notable assets was his knack for being able to chest a ball & shoulder it " no matter how fast high or what angle it was coming to him from and he would kill the ball dead ! of course he had pace aswell. jake did take a couple of games out in middle of 1st season but did return to play for new york Best Memory ! jake didnt score many goals for new york just unlucky i suppose but he set quite a few up ! But on the 1st feb 2009 away to bollington united who were unbeaten at home ! jake did finally score his one and only league gaol for new york ! we were 1-0 up and needed to capitalise on the pressure we were creating and on the hr jake recieved the ball in midfield knocked the ball past there defence and ran thru where the goalie forced jake wide but jake managed to keep the ball from going out for a goalkick round the keeper by way of backheeling and slotted a ball into the righthand cornet from a acute angle ! great goal which put us 2-0 up ! again all the players congradulated him coz it was long overdue ! |
| Zach Gray Midfielder |
Where do i start with this guy ? Another player who spent his time early on at bramhall north before moving on to fletcher moss ! yes the all conquering side from the tamside and timperly leagues. After that zach spent a couple of seasond out of the game until he linked up with his mates at new york ! Ive witnessed very few players with natural talent " the type your born with and zach gray was one of them coz you never new what this guy was going to do next and he was the best player ive seen at turning men and making them look silly be it doing the step over megging or playing keep ball ! a guy who didnt need to work at it coz he was born with that certain natural swagger ! but he was also a guy that never gave up and the smallest player we had ( with a big mouth to boot ) ha ha ya know the type a frusterated genious with a ball Best Memory ! against bramhall county away in a 5-2 win on the 3rd feb 2008 ! New york got into there rythem right from the off and the passing was a joy to watch with new york having to find a way past a keeper on form ! step in zach gay who di a couple of one twos with luke until he was in firing range about 20yrds out central to goal from a pass supplied by luke and zach timed everything right position wise and his run and he met the ball perfect and blasted a shot that swerved from left to right and back again beyond the keepers reach and into to lefthand side of the net ! A cracking goal that even the bramhall county players applauded and a goal which sums up this players ability ! |
| H-Meng Lee C/Midfielder |
A friend of mark and anthonys who had been out of school footy for 2yrs having snapped his achillese tendon ! one thing new york never had was a midfielder to command it .step in h-meng who we signed for the new 2008/09 season and what a debut commanded the midfield against a dirty hillgate team 14th sep 2008 ! H-meng scred our 1st goal in this game which set us up for thrashing hillgate 5-1 ! unfortunately due to the physical nature of this game and injury suffered h-meng played in the next game in a 5-2 win against wilmslow 21st sep 2008 ! but had to retire thru injury which is a shame coz in our 1st two games we were magnificent due 2 h-mengs input . only 2 app but would of been a great asset ! |
| James Howard Midfield |
James came at a difficult time and never really got the chance to flourish ! made 2 sub app against cheadle & gatley B 11th nov 2007 ! and against chinley juniors 18th nov 2007 all in all a nice lad that didnt get the chance ! |
| Micheal Ireland Striker |
Yep the brother of steven who plays for man city . He made his debut against hillgate boys 14th sep 2008 and scored his only goal in his only app ! choosing not to carry on . |
